Car phones are no longer common for several reasons. Using a phone while driving is extremely distracting and is illegal in most countries. Plus, built-in car phones are obsolete in the age of smartphones.

Built-in car phones first appeared in cars in the late 80s and were a status symbol. A car was considered luxurious only if it had a built-in phone, even though these phones often didn’t work well.
