The Sioux Nation, consisting of the Lakota, Western Dakota, and Eastern Dakota tribes, lived in the Great Plains, hunted bison, and resided in these teepees. This photograph was taken in the Dakota Territory.

Although teepees might appear simple, their construction required remarkable skill. They needed to be both sturdy and easy to disassemble for quick relocation when necessary.
