Sweet Potatoes

According to the British Heart Foundation, consuming four or more servings of potatoes may increase rather than decrease blood pressure. Despite containing components that could potentially lower blood pressure, potatoes' high carbohydrate content can have the opposite effect when consumed excessively.

This is why sweet potatoes are often recommended as a healthier alternative. As noted by the Cleveland Clinic, sweet potatoes contain about a third fewer carbs than white potatoes. However, they are still relatively high in carbohydrates. To fully benefit from their fiber, vitamin C, and potassium content without negating these advantages with excess carbs, it's advisable to avoid consuming more than four servings per week.
