7 Solutions for Morning Puffy Eyelids

If you had a heavy dinner, drank too much water or cried last night, you are likely to get a pair of puffy eyes when you wake up the next morning. Eyelids edema is not only very uncomfortable, but also affect your appearance. Do not rub or cry at this time in case that aggravate the congestion of the eyes. Here several solutions for you to reduce eye swelling.

1. Cold and warm compress

This is the most frequently-used method. First, cover an ice bag or cold towel on your eyes for 3-5 minutes, it can constrict blood vessels and help reduce swelling. (Or you can put a metal spoon in refrigerator for a while and then take it out) Then change for a warm towel or cotton pad in a suitable temperature without burning your skin. Repeat the two steps until the eyelid edema disappear.

2. Used teabag

If you have a used and cooled teabag of green tea, black tea, chamomile tea, wrap it with a towel and apply it on your eyes for about 5 minutes. The tannic acid contained in tea is a very good sword collector, which can effectively reduce swelling. However, please notice that tannic acid may stimulate your eyeballs and cause discomfort, also your eyelids may get dyed by the teabag, so do not apply it directly on your skin.

3. Shelled egg

Peel a boiled egg and gently roll it back and forth around the edema, so as to effectively promote blood circulation. Note that the temperature should not be too high to avoid scalding the skin around the eyes.

4. Potato slice

Cut a raw potato into thin slices, and apply them on your eyelids. About 10 minutes later, wash your face with clean water. This is also an effective way to reduce swelling.

5. Massaging

Massaging can well promote blood circulation, help discharge excess water and reduce swelling. All you need to do is put your index finger and middle finger together, then gently rub around your eyebrows, eyes, and temples. The detumescence effect is pretty good.

6. Cotton swabbing with saline or milk

Add a teaspoon of salt into 500ml warm water, keep stirring until it dissolved. Place a cotton swab, which is dipped in the salt water, on your upper eyelid to help alleviate the edema. Using milk has the same effect.

7. Drink black coffee

Caffeine contained in coffee is the most natural body drain, which can drain excess water from the body and ease edema. Drink a cup of pure black coffee without sugar or milk, you may feel the swelling gradually get better.

If you happen to have of eye edema, you need to eat a light dinner with slight amount of salt. Don't drink too much water before going to bed. Last but not least, have enough rest and sleep. Exercise and hot bath can also be helpful to blood circulation.
