Blepharoplasty - Free Guide

Eye bags are a common aesthetic problem for many people, but there is a solution – laser surgery. However, choosing the right laser surgeon to remove eye bags is crucial to ensure good results.

Below are a few tips for making a wise choice when choosing a surgeon for laser-assisted eye bag surgery. These insights will be beneficial no matter which type of reconstructive surgery one is looking for When it comes to eye-related reconstructive techniques, blepharoplasty is the most commonly performed surgical procedure. It helps improve the appearance of the eyelids. During the procedure, the surgeon removes excess muscle and skin from the upper and lower eyelid areas to address issues such as sagging, puffiness, and eye bags.

Blepharoplasty can be performed for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Cosmetically, blepharoplasty can remove signs of aging around the eyes, giving a more youthful appearance. Functionally, blepharoplasty can improve vision by removing obstructive eyelid tissue that blocks vision. The procedure is usually performed by a qualified plastic surgeon or oculoplastic surgeon.

The following are some of the most commonly used blepharoplasty techniques:

Upper blepharoplasty

This technique focuses on the upper eyelid. It involves making a surgical incision in the natural crease of the eyelid to remove excess skin. The wound is then closed with tiny stitches.

Lower blepharoplasty

This surgery is done primarily on the lower eyelid. There are two main approaches:

Transcutaneous lower eyelid blepharoplasty – This treatment involves making an incision just below the lower eyelash line or inside the lower eyelid. Excess skin (and sometimes muscle) is removed or repositioned to improve the appearance of eye bags and puffiness.

Transconjunctival lower eyelid blepharoplasty – This procedure involves making an incision on the inner surface of the lower eyelid, called the conjunctiva. This procedure is suitable for patients with good skin elasticity. This procedure does not leave a noticeable scar on the outer eyelid.

Double eyelid surgery

This is a common technique used by people who want a crease or wrinkle in their upper eyelids. The method involves creating a distinct upper eyelid crease to enhance the appearance of the eye.

Canthoplasty

Canthoplasty is a treatment that is often used in conjunction with blepharoplasty. It involves tightening the outer corner of the eye (canthus) to improve the contour and support of the eyelid.
